ZAWADI
Zawadi is perseverance. Courage. Hope. She represents thousands of students in rural Kenya who are struggling to learn in an epidemic of hunger. She's the symbol of hope we've chosen to rally behind.
She and her family of seven live in rural Kenya, at the foothills of the Aberdares Mountains. They're farmers, and they work hard to make enough to live. There's no money for books or uniforms. There's not even enough to guarantee they eat every day.
Without Flying Kites Academy, where Zawadi goes to school, she’d never have the same opportunities. She’s in 6th grade right now. Music class is her favorite, but she thrives in math and plays on the school handball team. Thanks to Flying Kites Academy, she receives nutritious food, clean water, and tools to plan for her future.
She is Zawadi, a hero of change and possibility.

ABOUT FLYING KITES
Flying Kites is a nonprofit organization transforming primary education in rural Kenya. At the center of their model is their Teacher Training Center & Academy - a hub for local teachers, and a model school in a region where access to primary education is not guaranteed. In partnership with Kenya’s Ministry of Education and other non-profit organizations, Flying Kites supports a network of resource-poor primary schools with access to learning resources, school infrastructure improvements, uniforms, clean drinking water, and school lunches.
